Tips To Remember For Traveling IBEW Members

    1.           If you travel to another IBEW Local Unions jurisdiction via portability YOU MUST check in with the Local Union to whose jurisdiction you will be working in before starting to work.

    a.           That Local Union will be your Representation while you are in that jurisdiction.

    b.           You can be brought up on charges and fined by the Local Union by violating the Referral / Portability Policy if you do not check in properly.

    c.            It is your responsibility to check In: NOT THE CONTRACTORS.

    2.           Always carry a current (paid up) dues receipt with you.

    3.           Make sure that your Electrical Reciprocal Transfer System (ERTS) Blanket authorization is correct with your Home Local before you travel to another IBEW Local Unions jurisdiction via portability or referral so that your Benefits will be properly reciprocated back to your Home Local Union's Funds.

    4.           If you are traveling to sign the out of work list of another Local Union, check with the Local Union to see if they require a travel letter from your home Local Union.

    5.           Respect the terms and conditions of the Local Union's agreement where you are employed.

    6.           Remember, you are a guest and should therefore represent your Local Union accordingly.

    7.           NEVER get involved in the politics of another Local Union.

    8.           Once you take a call, remove your name from all other Local Union's Out of Work Lists you are signed with

    except your home Local Union.

    9.           Remember, you are a professional, always conduct yourself like a Code of Excellence IBEW proud member.

    10.        Never leave a Local Union's jurisdiction without ensuring that all indebtedness is paid.

    11.        Notify the Local Union when you leave its jurisdiction when you are working under portability.
